In this lesson students learn about how advertising can influence consumers. This cross-curricular lesson aims for students to identify persuasive techniques, recognise gimmicks and how they work, investigate the influence of advertising on consumer choice, develop creative thinking, explore creative and persuasive writing techniques and share and accept viewpoints. Students first brainstorm the techniques used in advertising that they are already aware of, then identify gimmicks in ads that they have seen and then develop their own advertisement. Finally students are challenged to be 'advertisement detectives' in their local supermarket or corner store.
